After spending so many years reading “reviews,” you may begin to wonder how much of them are just marketing and how much is truth. The same holds true for all of the Canon Powershot A1100 reviews I read before buying this camera. Anyone can tell you that a product is wonderful (awesome, great, etc.) but do they ever show you? Canon has always put out a great product in the past, so I decided to buy the Canon Powershot A1100 and see if the “actual” customer reviews are true or not.

Long Battery Life – True. Long battery life is something that all of the Canon Powershot A1100 reviews seem to agree on. The secret: real, replaceable batteries (rechargeable or standard AAs). The batteries are a separate component, so if they die just replace them and keep snapping away.

Incredible Picture Quality – True. This is another point the Canon Powershot A1100 reviews agree about. I sell aquariums on auction sites so it goes without saying, taking good pictures really helps. I was pleasantly astonished to find this camera has a specific setting for aquariums (or anything with a naturally reflective surface) that eliminates the flash glare. With nine additional presets on this camera, taking the perfect photo is as simple as point and click.

User Friendly – Well... it is and it isn’t. Let me explain. While the camera itself is pretty easy to figure out overall, there were a few things I had to look at the instructions to figure out. This is where the issue is. The user guide provides a basic overview, but doesn’t go into a lot of detail. While it is easy to find the answers online, a complete instruction book (or at least a more detailed one) would be nice.

Overall I have to say that a majority of the Canon Powershot A1100 customer write-ups are mostly on the money. After you figure out the functions, it really is user-friendly; plus it takes great photos without much effort. Can you really ask for much more?

The web being what it is however, it can be hard to separate the "wheat" from the "chaff," especially when it comes to digital photography.
